OF GROWING OUR COMMUNITY TOGETHER
100 YEARS

Local Goodness since 1922
We are a proud family owned business that is here to serve our local community, here in Craughwell, Galway.
Making History ... Together
With almost 100 years in serving the Craughwell community Jody’s, as we know it today, began with his grandparents Pakie and Rita Fahy who opened a General Merchants which comprised of a grocery shop and drapery in Main Street and travelling shop to the extended community.
With Craughwell originally on the main Galway to Dublin road and with the rise of the motor vehicle, Pakie’s daughter Attracta and her new husband Joe Connolly (from Cahercrin) opened a service station with the brand Esso to add to offering.
Joe and Attracta were married in 1955, sadly only two years later at 35 years old, Joe passed away following an accident in July 1957. At this time Fintan was only 18 months old and Jody was born 6 months later. Once again the daily operation of the business was returned to Attracta and her parents. Until 1963 when Pakie Fahy (Jodys Grandfather) sadly passed away at 69 years old. Rita remained the guardian of both Fintan and Jody until she passed away in 1983.
In October 1976 having lost both his parents (his mother sadly passed at the young age of 48 years old) Jody took over the business. In 1989 he opened a new shop and petrol station where it operates from today.
A word from Jody …Our staff, our customers and our suppliers are what defines us. Their loyalty and commitment is a testament to everything we have built and endured and we are now looking forward with hope to the next phase of our development.
It is ironic, that it is in the time leading up to our 100 year anniversary, that we as a community have experienced one of our biggest challenges yet, with the Global Pandemic. It has been during this time that the true spirit of our community shone brighter and stronger than ever.
Thank you to everyone that has been involved in serving our community with us and for the efforts of the many who have helped us evolve into who we are today
